This Starry Bed
Had I written all the names of stars
In skies so fair, in skies so far,
I would name for you the burning point
That shines so fierce, that shines so far.
Heavenly bodies to fill my night:
In heated flare, in languid might,
Starry bed to dream with your moon man
(I wish I may, I wish I might).
Hold captive this dawn another day
In lovely hands, in lustrous sway;
Then wake the morning with breathless kiss
My brightest star, so far away.

(Dedicated to my dear pal, Kathlene, who had her typical good sense to send a poem about daisies to me this morning)
